Brazil To Take Part in BRICS Summit

Adviser to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares.

The parties discussed the Brazilian delegation’s participation in the BRICS Summit that will be held in Kazan on 22–24 October, the intensification of trade and economic relations between the two countries, and cooperation on forum issues, both in Russia and as part of Brazil’s chairship of BRICS in 2025.

“Brazil is one of Russia’s most important strategic partners in Latin America and the leader among Latin American countries in trade turnover with Russia. Relations between our countries are steadily developing in all key areas, including as part of the work of BRICS. Bilateral cooperation between Russia and Brazil is traditionally based on the similarity of our approaches to key issues on the global agenda, primarily building a multipolar world order based on respect for international law with the central role played by the UN,” said Anton Kobyakov, who serves as executive secretary of the organizing committee for Russia’s BRICS chairship in 2024.

The meeting participants noted positive trends in the development of projects in the chemical industry and agriculture, as well as the expansion of cooperation in pharmaceuticals and energy, including nuclear energy and civilian space activities, and discussed the participation of high-ranking Brazilian delegations in key business and industry events in Russia organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

In particular, they discussed the participation of members of the Brazilian business community in the events of the Russian Energy Week (REW) Forum programme, which will take place in Moscow on 26–28 September. The meeting participants noted the enormous potential for implementing joint projects involving both traditional and renewable energy sources. Russian companies have extensive interest in the energy-intensive Brazilian market.

In addition, one major event of REW this year will be the meeting of the BRICS ministers of energy, which will be held as part of events of Russia’s BRICS chairship in 2024.

Given the enormous potential in relations between the two countries, the meeting participants noted the need to develop a Russian-Brazilian dialogue as part of key congress and exhibition events. In particular, the parties examined the possibility of organizing a Russia–Brazil business dialogue and a national exhibition booth of Brazil at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Brazil and Russia will celebrate in a few years the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The relationship between the two countries has been marked by mutual respect, friendship and cooperation in a number of fields. We congratulate Russia on its fruitful chairship of BRICS this year and we hope that we will keep this partnership in 2025 during Brazil’s chairship of the group” Baena Soares said.

In addition, the meeting participants said great opportunities for the development of Russian-Brazilian cooperation are emerging on the sidelines of the Let’s Travel! Russian Tourism Forum, the Eastern Economic Forum, and the Future Technologies Forum.
