Iran to participate in the BRICS Summit
A meeting took place in Moscow between Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, and Kazem Jalali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation.
The main topic of discussion was the participation of the Iranian delegation in the BRICS Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Kazan on 22–24 October this year.
“Our countries actively cooperate in various economic fields and are expanding humanitarian ties. Iran’s participation in the BRICS Summit underscores the dynamic development of Russian-Iranian relations. It is important to note that Iran’s joining the group is a significant step towards advancing bilateral and multilateral initiatives during Russia’s chairmanship of BRICS in 2024,” emphasized Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and support of Russia’s chairmanship in BRICS in 2024.
In May 2024, the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union countries and Iran came into effect, facilitating the development of Russian-Iranian relations across various sectors. Recognizing the importance of supporting the positive trade dynamics and developing joint projects in key areas such as energy, tourism, and culture, the parties discussed the possibility of Iranian delegations participating in major business and industry events organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
“Our countries’ cooperation is not only economically significant but also strategically essential. We are committed to implementing the Iranian Pavilion project at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and to Iran’s participation as a guest country in this major business event. This form of cooperation, along with the organization of a Russia–Iran business dialogue, will reinforce the agreements previously reached, including those within BRICS, and establish new benchmarks for the progressive development of the full spectrum of Russian-Iranian relations, establishing direct contacts with representatives of Russian business and government,” noted Kazem Jalali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation.
The increasing mutual interest in tourism between Russian and Iranian citizens, along with the launch of direct flights on the Grozny-Tehran route, provides significant opportunities for Iran’s full participation in the Let’s Travel! Russian Tourism Forum. Additionally, both parties have expressed interest in Iran’s active involvement in the Caucasus Investment Forum and the Eastern Economic Forum, scheduled to take place on 3–6 September in Vladivostok.
The Roscongress Foundation is the operator of events for Russia’s chairmanship in BRICS.
