Currency and bank card transactions

Dear participants,

On this page, we have collected for you useful information about currency and bank card transactions.

Please pay attention to the features of currency and bank card transactions.

  • It is not possible to withdraw roubles/foreign currency at an ATM or receive cash at a point of sale using Mastercard or Visa cards issued outside of Russia. These cards can also not be used for the payment of goods and services in Russia.
  • Mir payment system cards are valid in Russia without restrictions. Union Pay cards are also valid, but with restrictions.
  • Only cash in US dollars or euros can be freely exchanged for cash in roubles in most banks in Russia. A passport will be required when you exchange over 40,000 roubles (≈ USD 416, EUR 380). If the exchange exceeds the equivalent of USD 10,000, it must be declared in writing.

Prepare for your trip to the Summit:

  1. Exchange the currency in your country of residence for USD, EUR or Russian roubles and bring cash for your arrival to Russia.
  2. We recommend applying for a Mir bank card in advance. Below we will explain in detail how to apply for a card and receive it at the bank branch nearest to your accommodation in Kazan.

If you need to get a card, exchange currency or withdraw cash urgently upon arrival at Kazan International Airport, go to the Ak Bars Bank branch at the airport.

The branch is located on the 1st floor of Terminal 1A of the airport, to the right of the exit from arrivals. The branch is open 24 hours a day. If you experience any difficulties finding the branch, please ask at the information desk in Terminal 1A of the airport.
